FIRST VARIETY OF THE SEASON: ROYAL TIOGA
for many years chris worked in the family business, a large, mainly export, cherry growing operation. increasingly he felt the pull to move to regenerative practices and bravely opted to buy his own orchard to test out all the possibilities that were whirring around in his head. the goal was nutrient density and heightened flavour all brought about by creating a more robust ecosystem with a deep focus on building organic matter in his soil, improving water retention (and reducing evaporation), creating greater biodiversity of flora and fauna and improved carbon sequestration, and NO chemical inputs.
the halls also run australian white sheep and now harvest their own honey produced from hives originally brought in to pollinate the cherries.
chris is a humble, thoughtful grower who has been quietly collecting accolades along the way, including 2019 nsw farmer of the year.
